Got bored tonight so decided to head down to the park to see if I could spot a Whip-poor-will. It was raining and pouring on the Turnpike, but was clear at the park. I cruised the main park road and saw two Whips sitting on the side of the road. Other than that I saw four Barn Owls.
A couple snakes were out on the road. I got some good photos of a Corn Snake and a Florida Cottonmouth, and found a dead Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnake. Biggest surprise was in the Pa-hay-okee parkinglot though. What looked like a speed bump turned out to be a fifteen foot or so Burmese Python. Jumped out with the camera and the batteries died!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I watched the snake for a couple minutes sit on the warm road, daring me to do something about it. Even if it wasn't in a National Park, I still wouldn't mess with a python that size. I made do with some cruddy camera phone pictures and took off home, leaving the python right where I found it.
