This morning, after a quick tour of Sadowski, I birded Deering Estate with Bill Searcy and Ernie Lent. We found a male, black-back Western Spindalis (which I called Stripe-headed Tanager at the time of course) with a mixed flock of birds. It was located in a large tree at the entrance to the hammock trail at the north end of the avocado grove. This part of Deering is open to the public, however, there is a small entrance fee. We had nine warbler species in Deering, and a 10th at Sadowski.
Afterwards, I went to a lake near Cutler Wetlands to count gulls and found a single Franklin's with the other 6,000 gulls. Trey and Paul found another 3, so that's 4 Franklin's Gulls for this portion of the CBC. We're getting spoiled with this one down here.
