Speaking of Gannets, I noticed last weekend (Dec. 2-3), that the Gannets headed southward off Jensen Beach tended to reverse the normal winter situation where immatures form the majority. The Gannets I observed, in lines of up to 50 individuals, were about 70 percent adults. Don't know why it would be different this year.
I also saw two very large flights of dark ducks headed north. They were too far offshore to ID, but my guess is Black Scoters, as I see these every year up there in December, sometimes fairly close to shore and easy to ID.
