I haven't been able to scan offshore very much this weekend, but there have been some good birds. On Friday, a young Brown Booby flew just offshore. There were small groups of immature Northern Gannets for good comparison. Yesterday, Red-breasted Mergansers flew over the bay and a Lesser Scaup was at the west end of Powell Bridge. Late yesterday a large raft of dark ducks was in the bay but too far for species ID with binocular. I tried to find it this morning without success. On Hobie Beach this morning, I found 2 Horned Grebes working the area and coming very close to shore. Offshore, 2 Common Loons flew in and landed in the water. There are plenty of gannets and frigatebirds offshore.
