It's been my experience that Short-tailed hawks in Collier are easier to find in the southern portions of the county i.e. from Collier-Seminole S.P. south and east. Here in North Naples, they definitely are anything but common. I can count on one hand the few that I've seen up this way in the 6+ years I've lived here. It seems to me that dark morph birds are more common than light morphs although a few years back, there was a dark morph that stayed around Corkscrew Sanctuary for several days, often perching in Slash Pines by the Blair Visitor's Center. . . .
