Folks, I've been under some stress lately, so I apologize for some emails or postings that may have sounded a bit rude. I will refrain from talking about the grebe anymore until I go see it and offer my opinion. I'm always cautioning about jumping the gun and yet I was saying how sure I was that this animal is an Eared Grebe. Well, I'm not so sure anymore but I'm still leaning on Eared (if I'm wrong, it's only a learning experience). I will TRY to go with Toe and Trey this Saturday to bring back a holistic opinion on the bird.
In reality, all we have to do is hope the bird sticks around for a couple more weeks in order to see if it is a Horned Grebe in transitional plumage (which will then change to basic) or if it is an Eared Grebe (in which case it won't change much). So there you go Scott, we really don't have to wait until this fella changes in to breeding plumage. But wait, didn't Paul-the-other shoot the bird? If only he would've waited a week or so...
