As I was refilling bird and hummingbird feeders this afternoon I had a bird fly into the guava tree .
It was larger than a warbler, more sparrow sized but with a longer body.Overall it was brown with a light reddish wash and had a red/orange cap and back of neck. there was striping to the belly area and when it flew away there was a good flash of yellow at the base of the longish tail.
The closest I could find was a house finch but the red on this bird did not extend to the breast.
I am pretty sure I saw its female (with no red but similar markings at the feeders as I went to fill them.
Can someone help me figure out what this is?
thanks
