They will defend a feeder that they consider "theirs". Try putting feeders in several different ( conspicuous) places. I have been told that they will go for the plants first then the feeders. Actually my hummer this fall seems to prefer the feeders which are right over the firebush ( go figure!).My friend in Miami Shores tells me that her hummers go for the papaya blooms.
By the way, what kind of bromeliads is he feeding off of?
