On Sunday we saw two dark phase Short-tailed Hawks making their way South over the Hell's Bay section of Whitewater Bay in Everglades National Park. There were also numerous Merlins and Peregrines and one Chat was seen at Lucky Hammock.

: A light-phase Short-tailed Hawk was seen by me, as well as Patrick Cure's entire
: 8th grade Honors Earth Science class from Ruben Dario Middle School, durng our
: visit this morning to Anhinga Trail at Everglades National Park. The hawk was first
: spotted by one of the students, and circled only a hundred feet or so directly over
: our heads.

: I can't recall ever seeing a Short-tailed Hawk at Anhinga Trail in September, but then
: again, I haven't spent a whole lot of time at Anhinga Trail in September. Not a
: whole lot else around, though the students and I did see a few migrants (redstart,
: b-t blue, a couple of ovenbirds) on the Gumbo Limbo Trail.
