It's very sad to read such unexpected news. Juan was always such a gentleman in addition to his skills as a birder. Even after his stroke, he would never fail to ask me about my daughter whenever we crossed paths. I will miss him.
My favorite memory of Juan involves those times when a group -- usually including Paul-- would stop by Juan's house in the morning on the way to the Sod Farms, and there never failing to be a cortadito or cafe cubano for anyone who wanted one.
