I had to slip out for a quick 3 hours this morning and do a some birding. I
headed to Lucky Hammock and the Annex. Lucky hammock was fairly quiet except for
Prairie Warblers, Palm Warblers, Common Yellow Throats and about 2 dozen Painted
Buntings. I hadn't ever seen so many at one time. There was a good mix of males
and females making for a very colorful event.

I also walked the East side of the road across from Lucky Hammock along the
fields edge hoping for a few sparrows, but didn't see any. There were a few
warblers there as well including a Yellow Breasted Chat. There were many Common
Ground Doves everywhere on Aero Jet Rd. There were 3-4 Kestrels, 2 Red
Shouldered Hawks and one Northern Harrier in the area as well.

In the Annex area it was very quiet. I only saw a few White-eyed Vireo, a
dozen BT Blues, several Common Yellow Throats and Palm Warblers. I didn't work
the area long and decided to go to ENP and check the parking lot at Royal Palm
and Research Rd.

Not much in the way of warblers at any location, but at one of my stops on
Research Rd, I did see a Tennessee Warbler. Catbirds were around but not in the
same numbers as this time last year. I headed to Royal Palm and found the same,
only a few warblers, nothing exciting.

I was happy to get away from my desk and get some fresh air.

A so-so day birding is better than working in MHO!

Now, I'm back home and back to work...
