They bred this year for the first time (that we know of) since they began reintroductions a few years ago. Which is good, because that was it for the reintroduction attempts. At least two broods, we think - over 20 new young'uns - so folks should be seeing more of them in Long Pine Key in the future.
Incidentally, we had 10 corn-baited motion sensing cameras throughout Long Pine Key but never recorded evidence of the elusive little turklets until people started seeing them on Research Road. So goes high-tech wildlife biology.
If folks could post whatever LPK turkey sightings they have or email them to me that would be swell.
