I found my life Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow this morning, a cooperative bird that flushed near the side of the road. It was at the usual location, slightly over a mile past the Mahogany Hammock turnoff. And I may have picked out the right song this time, the one described by Sibley that's very simple--mainly a single buzz on one pitch. (Let me know.)

During my vigil, I was surprised to hear a Sandhill Crane bugling in the distance somewhere. I've never had them here in the summer, and never right in the park either. I see from Pranty that they do sometimes breed this far south (?).

I checked out the ponds area beyond Gate 15 off the Hidden Lake spur of Research Road, thinking there might be a few shorebirds. No luck, but one Royal and one Least Tern were there. I just beat a thundercloud back to the parking area.

Good birding,
Susan
