Many thanks to those who replied to my plea for help. Thanks Vince, for the URL. As a couple of birders pointed out, a Reeve would not necessarily "tower" over a Sanderling. I forgot to mention in the original post that the bird was in a mixed flock of Sanderlings and Ruddy Turnstones, looking like neither species. It walked deliberately with no noticeable head bobbing.

Steve Siegel visited the flats just afer the storm and was told by a ranger that 2 lifeguard stands were hit by lightning.
