18-inch screech owls? Yikes!
My labrador and I barely make it through the yard now and ours are barely bigger than my fist. I got bopped in the head again last week for simply trying to free one fledgling that had somehow found its way into our screened porch.
Enjoy them while they last. Consider putting up an owl box (for next year's brood) where you can easily observe it from a window or screened porch, but not too close to your door, or the protective parents may decide you must stay in the house for several weeks. Our home has only one entry and exit door, and we (and our dogs) learned that lesson the hard way.
