Wait a minute- thrashers vs thrushes?

I know there are some experts out there reading this board. I just read the previous posting and threads about the brown thrasher. I am looking in the Audubon Field Guide ( where else?), and I see:
Thrashers are in the Mimidae Family ( mockingbird, catbird, brown thrasher, and the infamous curve-billed that you see out west), and
Thrushes are in the Muscicapidae Family ( such as robins, bluebirds, veeries, and wood thrushes) . I always identify these guys by their black eyes, as opposed to the Mimidae and their yellow eyes.
Is the posting correct by calling the brown thrasher a "thrush?"
Experts? Help me out here
