Despite the intensely urban environment in Tokyo, Japan, the city's many parks and gardens still provide habitat for a variety of birds. A short walk along Tokyo Bay yesterday morning yielded the following: Spot-billed Duck, Greater Scaup, Gray Starling, Japanese White-Eye, Great Cormorant, Tree Sparrow (the weaver finch), Japanese Wagtail, Brown-eared Bulbul, Oriental Greenfinch, Black-headed Gull, Dusky Thrush, and (you guessed it) loads of Jungle Crows. These crows are known to drop hard-shelled nuts in the street so that passing traffic will break them open. The crows then watch for the walk signal so that they can fly down and pick up the pieces safely.
Great sashimi over here, too.
