Just try to remember that predators like herons and hawks actually have to work harder to "make a living" than animals that are herbivorous. Many animals have larger litters in order to compensate for one or two that might fall prey to a predator. Predators spend most of the day hunting in order to get enough food to eat...because many of their attempts to catch dinner will not result in anything.

Great Blues are generalist predators and will make a meal out of just about anything that catches their eye. Hope you keep watching the birds...you may see something that surprises you every day!!
