We spent a soggy morning at Birch State Park, but it was well worth it. Warblers were in abundance, especially Cape May Warblers. One fruiting Ficus tree held over 30 Cape Mays and they were abundant throughout the park. In total we had 12 warbler species, though nothing unexpected: Ovenbird, Worm-eating, Black-and-white, Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart, Northern Parula, Cape May, Black-throated Blue, Blackpoll, Palm, Prairie, and Black-throated Green. We also had a single Yellow-billed Cuckoo and a couple of Indigo Buntings. One of the park rangers told us that there were four male Eastern Bluebirds at the north end of the park, which would be extremely rare even for the county. We went back to try to verify this but didn't find them. Has anyone else heard of this?
