funny that you mention this. I had had way more male painteds this year than usual in my winter flock .and I was patting myself on the back for introducing friends in homestead and hollywood to the idea of using finch seed in some of their feeders and voila they now have painteds in their yards too. Just how endangered are they? what about the indigos? I had no less than seven almost fully blue guys at the feeders today. seems like last year by the time I saw 3 fully molted out they were gone for the summer...
: Is it us, or is there a bunting invasion all over Miami - more than moswt years? Our yard is chock-full of indigos and painteds. Painteds! TWO MALES today! Life IS good. They seem to especially like our neighbor's mulberry tree, then fly to our mister in the oak trees (it's a big hit with the black & white warblers and red-bellieds too). Make us want to plant a zillion mulberry trees (hey, at least our cats are indoor cats, it'll be safer for them, and we can zoom in closer - win-win!).
