Perhaps I confused the loss of habitat for these birds with the actual birds themselves.I remember doing much searching online after seeing my first painted in the yard after the noname storm 6or so years ago.I guess I figured that a loss of habitat =loss of birds, as it usually does.
Georgiana, I have been telling my birds to look for your feeders next year as my personal (rental)habitat is for sale to the evil developer crowd. As such , another native (me) goes on the endangered list...

: Vince, I imagine that you are trying to post a pic showing how the buntings are relentlessly hunted in Cuba. This is not new, but nonetheless there is little public knowledge about this problem. There are many species throughout the Caribbean that are being hunted for the pet trade, but the perception about these places is usually that they are good stewards of the environment. I know that many species in Trinidad and Tobago are now rare due to the pet trade. And, we even have a local problem with people trying to catch painted buntings in the Miami area. I sometimes peek into pet shops just to see if they have any buntings or other illegal songbirds. You are correct in bringing up the fact that they are no endangered, but it's a very big YET.
