Sorry about the super late post! I had gone to bird at Lucky Hammock early on the 17th and found the gate closed. Just as I had pulled in front of the gate, an official park vehicle pulled next to me to check what I was doing, and I was told due to vandalism the gate would be closed every Friday through Monday, but you can park out on the main road and walk in. Nothing was said about "live fire" from the military.
I don't know if anything else has been learned recently about all of this, but thought I should share what I had been told. Hopefully we can drive in there again soon or TAS can get permission for official walks - it would be a shame to lose such an awesome place to enjoy birding!
