I spent Wednesday and Thursday in the Space Coast area looking for, and finding, two new state birds. The Common Merganser continues to be found near the intersection of Halifax and Commonwealth in Port Orange, while the Thayer's Gull was located in a large gull flock about a quarter to half a mile north of Frank Rendon Park in Daytona Beach Shores. Both were seen yesterday.

Other birds of interest included Purple Sandpiper on the north jetty at Ponce Inlet State Park, Greater Scaup and a presumed hybrid Eurasian Wigeon X American Wigeon on the Black Point Wildlife Drive at Merritt Island, a male Redhead at Vista 5 in Canaveral National Seashore, and Pomarine Jaeger offshore at CNS.
