This morning at 10:30 while surveying the boardwalk and wetlands at the east end of the parking lot at the SW Regional Library in Pembroke Pines, I saw this crow-sized raptor land in the top of a tree about 190 yards (175 meters as measured on Google Earth) to the SE. It was slender, small-headed, its wingtipw extended beyond the tail, and it had a long sharply curved beak. Its forehead looked light but it was backlit and otherwise appeared dark. Unfortunately it flew just as I was peering into the camera LCD after I took a few shots, so I did not see its wing or flight characteristics. After brightening the image 2 stops in the computer and sharpening the image it shows large breast spots and the light forehead is confirmed, as is suggestion of an eye line and a few spots on its wings. It looks very much like a female Snail Kite to me, but since this is the first I have seen at this location I would appreciate confirmation or further opinions before putting it on eBird. The site is closed to the public but since I will be leading bird walks there I can obtain access.
