It's a real shame this species has become so unreliable in S. FL. We shouldn't have to chase one way out in the boonies, but that's what has happened. I got my life Smooth-billed Ani when I saw three in a hedge across the street from the Home Depot in Cutler Ridge in the late 90's! Lot's of speculation as to why they have almost disappeared, but I don't think we really know for sure.
