I can certainly understand how the location information on my initial eBird checklist could be confusing.

It is true that most of Loxahatchee RD used to be in Palm Beach County. It is also true that Google Maps still shows it being in PBC. (I assume that eBird maps are based upon Google Maps.) Unfortunately, this is one location where Google Maps is way out-of-date. Several years ago, as authorized by a special act of the Florida Legislature, Palm Beach County transferred to Broward County: The Wedge , which is a triangular area (about 2,000 acres) whose south boundary is the former "County Line RD" and whose north boundary is the centerline of the Hillsboro Canal (running along the north side of Loxahatchee RD). The maps of the Property Appraisers of both County governments have already been revised to reflect the transfer of The Wedge . The City of Parkland has annexed most of The Wedge . It is my understanding that the BROWARD County Sheriff already provides service to all of "The Wedge" (including all of Loxahatchee RD & all of Levee-36 & all of the plateau).

Anyone who birds inside "The Wedge" is birding inside Broward County, but any checklist submitted for a "personal location" placed inside "The Wedge" is automatically treated by eBird as if it were in Palm Beach County. Therefore, I (& many other Broward birders) feel forced to submit our Wedge checklists from locations south of the former County Line RD (such as the closest Hotspot, which is "Pine Trails Park").

In order to minimize the unavoidable confusion, my initial checklist for the WESP showed the following info under "Date and Effort": Protocol = "Traveling"; Distance = "9.0 miles"; Duration = "6 hours, 40 minutes"; Comments = "@@@ --- all of Loxahatchee RD --- @@@". The checklist has a total of 53 species. The entry for WESP had even more detailed location info: "near the W end of Loxahatchee RD".
