After seeing the male Painted Bunting at the Annex, some of decided to go to Robert is Here for some fantastic shakes. Only two cars left, we decided to head over to the Schnebly Winery on SW 217th Avenue where a Yellow-headed Blackbird was reported. We found it almost immediately, but it didn't stick long. A Scissor-tailed Flycatcher flew in while we were waiting. After a couple minutes, the flock with the Yellow-headed Blackbird came back. Again, it flew off within about thirty seconds, and we decided to head off to. We split up, and then ther were just three of us in one car. Our plan was to look for nocturnal birds back in the park.
Just after nightfall, we were out listening for Whip-poor-will's and owls on Research Road. It was fairly buggy. Eventually, Eastern Screech-owls and a Whip-poor-will were calling. We headed out to the end of Research Road in search of Burrowing Owl and Lesser Nighthawk. Paul saw a bird fly off the side of the road, and I could hear a faint cooing from just of the road.
We could not find any eye-shine on the road way heading out of the park, but we did spot a Barn Owl sitting on a slash pine.
Once out of the park, Paul and I had a Barn Owl sitting eye level just off the road.
I had two life birds and quite a few year birds.
