So you admit that 2010 was a glitch in an otherwise warming trend? What I'm saying is that some species of birds, just like some species of fish, may be staying farther north in response to warmer winters down here. This is a theory that needs more observation. In the last 4-5 years, King Mackerel are staying in the area from Canaveral north. The commercial boats are doing good up there. By contrast, both commercial and recreational captains down here say we haven't had a good run on King Mackerel in 4-5 years or more. They blame warmer winters and a lack of strong cold fronts. I've personally witnessed dramatic movement of fish in response to cold fronts. Isn't also likely that birds will respond as well?

During my years of doing seawatches and bay watches, I've seen strong movements of ducks along our coast when strong cold fronts move through. No sooner has the cold front passed, you will see them flying north again. This is especially true for scoters, which really shouldn't be down here. But, it was the cold front that made them overshoot their destinations up north and make it down here. So, strong cold fronts will push birds farther south that they normally would go, maybe.
