Kingfish are still gillnetted in federal waters offshore. Maybe that has something to do with it. I have family in iowa, big ag has really changed the landscape of that state, it's now a monoculture of corn. In the summer, you really notice the rarity of formerly everyday birds like thrushes and robins. Pesticides? Lack of habitat? Something is causing the decline. Alex harper's list of reasons for the ani decline is probably the best explanation. Combination of lots of little things add up to really bad outcomes.
