So nice of you to ask! I filmed this Tropical Kingbird in November (16th?) 2008 across the canal from Mt. Trashmore in Miami-Dade County.
The bird never called, and we were unable to ID it on the site. However, the power of video shone through later (yay!). Only video at 30 frames per second could have grabbed this shot. The bird took off and in frame #267 it identified itself.
Pyle, 1997, page 253 separates Tropical from Couch's Kingbird by the relative length of primary # 10 and primary #5. In Tropical, primary #5 is shorter than #10. (#8 is partly obscured by the wire). Note that Pyle's original illustration is incorrectly labelled, and is corrected in the Errata included with the book. Unless you assume that this spread of the wing does not approximate that attained in the hand by a bander, then this ID should be appropriate.
