Hello birders! We are collecting photos on Facebook of breeding birds to contribute to Florida's Second Breeding Bird Atlas. 2016 is the last year of this five year study and Miami-Dade is lagging far behind! In the 1980's, Miami-Dade had 120 confirmed breeding birds species. We have only documented 65 so far this time around. When breeding season starts up again, we'll be posting "missions" to try to target locations and species in need of additional coverage. The next 2 months are all about raising awareness and gathering data from previous seasons (2011-2015). Pictures you post to the site won't be used without your permission; they're just a tool for gathering data. Any data you contribute will be greatly appreciated, but we also want to involve as many Miamians as possible! Tell your non-birding friends. Pass this along to community groups and schools. This is a great project to get anybody involved in birding and make people more aware of the birds in their own backyards. If there's a significant amount of interest, I could attend this month's conservation meeting on the 28th to better coordinate and organize local efforts for the Atlas. Thanks!
