Around 10 birders joined me today for the TAS walk. We had a total of 41 species and 12 warbler species. Weather and company were great. It was hard to leave the meeting area in the parking lot by the baseball field as it had lots of bird activity. We got to see a Cooper's Hawk and a Sharp-shinned Hawk flying together which made for good comparison. An Empidonax at the oak grove adjacent to the skater area caused confusion and discussion on Empidonax species differentiation. Olivish back and subtle yellow below incline me to believe Acadian but with Empidonax it is really hard to say. Highlight warblers were Tennessee, Black-throated Green and a Blackburnian. We also had several Scarlet and Summer Tanagers. The biggest highlight of the trip was a Bell's Vireo. Brian Rapoza was able to re-locate the bird in the area where I saw it last week. Great Blue Heron Cattle Egret Black Vulture Sharp-shinned Hawk Cooper's Hawk American Kestrel White-crowned Pigeon White-winged Dove Mourning Dove Eurasian Collared-Dove Monk Parakeet Yellow-billed Cuckoo Red-bellied Woodpecker Empidonax Flycatcher Loggerhead Shrike Bell's Vireo Red-eyed Vireo Blue Jay Fish Crow Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Gray Catbird Northern Mockingbird Brown Thrasher European Starling Tennessee Warbler Northern Parula Blackburnian Warbler Black-throated Blue Warbler Black-throated Green Warbler Palm Warbler Prairie Warbler Yellow-throated Warbler Black-and-white Warbler American Redstart Common Yellowthroat Ovenbird Scarlet Tanager Summer Tanager Northern Cardinal Common Grackle
