This morning was the first public birdwalk of the season here at the estate and it did not disappoint. The second I got out of my car I instantly heard Swainson's Thrushes flying over. While waiting for 7:30am to roll around I sat and did a baywatch from the People's Dock and had two Blue-winged Teal fly by heading south as well as my second Mississippi Kite of the year also heading south. Soon after, all three expected vireos turned up (Red-eyed, White-eyed and Yellow-throated) and by the end of the walk, I tallied 12 warbler species including my first of the fall Orange-crowned and a Blue-winged Warbler. Other first of fall birds for me included Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Summer Tanager, Tree Swallow and Ruby-throated Hummingbird.
