Dear All: Thanks to my sister-in-law who works for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, I got the idea to start fundraising right now for Birdathon like they do in organizations like hers and the Boston Marathon. I also have been encouraged to share the letter which I posted on Facebook to see if we can take Birdathon to the next level. There is a link to a Peregrine Falcon pic below, but I don't know if I've got it working right. You may have to click on the link to see the photo. May the craziest / best birder win! EC (Not likely to be either) Dear Friends and Family, Our family will be competing in the Birdathon next year to raise funds for Tropical Audubon Society. We ask you to please sponsor us and the important work that Audubon does here in South Florida. Here’s how Birdathon works. Our whole family will set out to see as many birds as possible in a 24-hour period. You can sponsor us by bird, by species, or with a flat amount. Over the past two years since our last Birdathon, our family has seen at least 157 new species of birds, many of these on TAS-sponsored trips. The photo accompanying this message is of a Peregrine Falcon, the fastest animal in the world with speeds up to 200 miles per hour, taking a little break from its high-velocity life in the agricultural areas of Palm Beach County during our TAS trip there on Saturday, August 29. In addition to conducting nature walks, Tropical Audubon conducts critical environmental protection efforts in our community like the defense of the few remaining Pine Rockland areas, one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world with less than 1% of habitat remaining. Biological diversity underpins our existence as a species, and, with the great population and climate challenges that we face, we must protect our surroundings if we are to survive and enjoy a high quality of life. Thanks to my sister-in-law, xyz, who works for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, for the idea to start fundraising now just like they do in other organizations, so please send us a check today made out to Tropical Audubon Society and give our Birdathon a Peregrine Falcon-fast start! Sincerely, pdq (Eloso Coddence)
