I'l be leaving southwest Florida for a few months starting tomorrow, so I decided to spend one last day in the Everglades Agricultural Area (Palm Beach County muck fields). The Gressinger Tract of the Roth Sod Farms continues to harbor hundreds of shorebirds including about 1000 Stilt sandpipers and 25 Wilson's phalarope. Quickest way to get there is to head down Browns Farm Road from CR 880 about seven miles to the south side of the canal south of the tower. Go west about 1/4 mile, turn right and head south to until you see the remains of an old building ahead and to the right. Turn right and go til you see the birds. The field is mostly a rice field but the section close to the road is open and full of birds. They are still pumping water into the field, so it should be good for awhile longer. Keep an eye out for a neat looking Budgerigar that is still hanging about the power lines on the north/south section of road. The road is very bumpy, but solid.
