This morning, I completed my annual North American Breeding Bird Survey in Everglades National Park, a 25-mile route along the main park road from Flamingo to near Pay-hay-okee. As usual, mosquito levels ranged from unbearable for the first couple of stops to tolerable, then nonexistent for the rest of the morning. Here are the birds I encountered (heard or seen) during the survey: Anhinga-1 Great Egret-9 Snowy Egret-3 Tricolored Heron-2 Cattle Egret-1 Green Heron-2 White Ibis-6 Black Vulture-10 Turkey Vulture-11 Osprey-1 Swallow-tailed Kite-9 Bald Eagle-1 Red-shouldered Hawk-5 White-crowned Pigeon-2 Barred Owl-2 Red-bellied Woodpecker-37 Northern Flicker-1 Pileated Woodpecker-2 Great Crested Flycatcher-19 Eastern Kingbird-1 White-eyed Vireo-32 American Crow-69 Northern Mockingbird-1 Common Yellowthroat-18 Pine Warbler-1 Prairie Warbler-3 Eastern Towhee-2 Northern Cardinal-31 Red-winged Blackbird-13 Eastern Meadowlark-1 Common Grackle-1 Boat-tailed Grackle-20
