Birding was slow at the beginning, as we birded the Coe Visitor's Center and surrounding area, then visited Anhinga Trail and the Gumbo Limbo Trail, and Research Road including the missile base and the trail at Gate 2. We had lunch at Long Pine Key. One of the group found a flock of birds near one of the bathrooms, and suddenly our birding luck changed. After spending some time with that flock, we headed on to Mahogany Hammock, where we found 4 BT Green Warblers (there had also been one at Coe). Paurotis Pond didn't have much, but West Lake was decent, and we found a few more birds at Mrazek Pond. The tide was in, so we couldn't see much from Flamingo, but a couple of Manatees were in the marina area. There were about a half dozen more in front of old visitor's center that gave us great looks! We added some shorebirds by the amphitheater, and Roseate Spoonbill, White Pelican, and Spotted Sandpiper at Eco Pond. My last bird of the day was a Bald Eagle on the way home. The list includes a few birds I saw along the 209 Ave-388 St-212 Ave loop (e.g., Peafowl).
