Some 20 birders joined me for a pleasant walk at Kendall Indian Hammocks Park on Saturday, 10/21. The weather was warm, humid and cloudy but it never rained. We had a total of 17 warbler species seen by some or all birders. Outstanding was a total of 4 stunning male Hooded Warblers. Bay-breasted Warblers (some 4) were also seen and was a First of Season for many. Same can be said of an immature Chestnut-sided Warbler. A Swainson’s Warbler responded to a recording but it gave brief looks to a few in the party. Warbler species seen: Ovenbird, Black-and-white Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Swainson’s Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Hooded Warbler, American Redstart, Cape May Warbler, Northern Parula, Magnolia Warbler, Bay-breasted Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Palm Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler, Prairie Warbler and Black-throated Green Warbler. Other birds of interest were a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak with lots of red on throat, Swainson’s Thrush, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Broad-winged Hawk, Red-eyed and White-eyed Vireos and a Belted Kingfisher flew overhead.
