Bird song/Unidentified nocturnal "whine"
I recorded a bird song and another call of some kind and wanted some help identifying them. You may need to turn up the speakers or use headphones. The bird song was recorded in Richloam Wildlife Management Area in April of 2006. It was in a more open pine flatwood. The unidentified call was recorded in the Green Swamp on January 17, 2007 at about 1:10 AM. We would hear this dog-like whine every few minutes and each time it sounded very similar. We followed the sound to the base of a tree but could find nothing. After approaching stealthily to within about 20 or 30 feet it went silent. Never heard anything like it. Any ideas? Thank you.
