Twelve birders joined me for this morning's TAS walk at the C-357 Sparrow Fields in the East Everglades. Virtually all of the water that had been in the impoundments the past few weeks has disappeared, so we didn't see a single duck. Sparrows were also scarce; only Grasshopper, Savannah and Eastern Towhee. A flock of American Goldfinch circled over us, my first of the season. John Hutchison reported hearing a Dickcissel calling, but never saw it. Here's what was tallied, either by me or by participants (let me know if I missed anything): Eurasian Collared Dove Common Ground-Dove Mourning Dove Killdeer Lesser Yellowlegs Wood Stork Double-crested Cormorant Great Blue Heron Great Egret Cattle Egret Black-crowned Night-Heron White Ibis Turkey Vulture Osprey Red-shouldered Hawk Short-tailed Hawk Belted Kingfisher Red-bellied Woodpecker American Kestrel Eastern Phoebe Loggerhead Shrike American Crow Tree Swallow Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Gray Catbird American Goldfinch Grasshopper Sparrow Savannah Sparrow Eastern Towhee Eastern Meadowlark Red-winged Blackbird Common Grackle Boat-tailed Grackle Common Yellowthroat Palm Warbler Prairie Warbler Northern Cardinal Painted Bunting
