Twelve birders joined me for today's TAS tour to STA-5/6 in Hendry County. Birds seen on CR 833 and CR 835, en route to STA-5/6 included Wild Turkey, Wood Stork, Bald Eagle (an adult), Crested Caracara, Pileated Woodpecker and American Crow. Birds tallied at STA-5/6 included the following: Fulvous Whistling-Duck (>100) American Wigeon Mottled Duck Blue-winged Teal Northern Shoveler Ring-necked Duck Bufflehead (female) Ruddy Duck Pied-billed Grebe Common Ground-Dove Mourning Dove King Rail (heard) Virginia Rail (heard) Sora (heard) Purple Gallinule Gray-headed Swamphen Common Gallinule American Coot Limpkin Black-necked Stilt (>100) Killdeer Long-billed Dowitcher Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Caspian Tern Anhinga Double-crested Cormorant American Bittern (heard) Great Blue Heron Great Egret Snowy Egret Little Blue Heron Tricolored Heron Cattle Egret Green Heron Black-crowned Night-Heron White Ibis Glossy Ibis Roseate Spoonbill Black Vulture Turkey Vulture Osprey Snail Kite (several) Northern Harrier Cooper's Hawk Red-shouldered Hawk Red-tailed Hawk (on Blumberg Road as we were leaving) Belted Kingfisher American Kestrel Peregrine Falcon Eastern Phoebe Loggerhead Shrike Northern Rough-winged Swallow Tree Swallow Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Gray Catbird Savannah Sparrow Eastern Meadowlark Red-winged Blackbird Common Yellowthroat Palm Warbler On our way back to Miami, Bill Boeringer and I stopped at the Broward County rest area on Alligator Alley (I-75), where we found White-crowned and Swamp Sparrow, among the 18 species seen during our brief stop.
