Today I helped out again with the city nature challenge at county preserves. We started at Camp Owaissa Bauer where I was quickly attracted to a flock of Cedar Waxwings on a fruiting ficus tree. Fruiting ficus have been hard to find this spring so I knew this was where to look. While trying to get photos of the waxwings, I spotted a warbler that at first I thought would be a Cape May. To my surprise it was a Bay-breasted, my first in the spring. This is an uncommon species for us here in SE FL at any time, but in spring they are almost unheard of. Only a few other migrants in the various stops, but this one made my day.
