Although skies threatened, TAS had a nice walk at AD Barnes this morning, and the rain stayed away. Unfortunately, many of the migrants present earlier in the week had cleared out, but we still ended up with 12 species of warblers for the day. A singing House Wren was a nice start, and highlights included great views of 3 Spot-breasted Orioles (an adult and two juveniles) feeding in a small tree, 2 calling Broad-winged Hawks in the Nature Center, some good looks at a cooperative Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and 5 White-crowned Pigeons inexplicably sitting bunched together at the top of a single Australian Pine. Those who stayed to the bitter end were rewarded by good looks at a perched Chuck-will's-widow (until it flushed out) right in the area where we parked. Thanks to everyone for coming out today! The day's list (from my eBird count): White Ibis 1 Turkey Vulture 1 Cooper's Hawk 2 Broad-winged Hawk 2 Common Gallinule 1 White-crowned Pigeon 5 Eurasian Collared-Dove 7 Mourning Dove 6 Chuck-will's-widow 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird 1 hummingbird sp. 2 Red-bellied Woodpecker 5 American Kestrel 1 Monk Parakeet 3 Blue-and-yellow Macaw 1 (heard) Blue Jay 6 House Wren 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 5 Gray Catbird 4 Northern Mockingbird 9 European Starling 6 Ovenbird 1 Worm-eating Warbler 1 Black-and-white Warbler 4 Common Yellowthroat 1 American Redstart 7 Northern Parula 2 Black-throated Blue Warbler 1 Palm Warbler 11 Pine Warbler 6 Yellow-throated Warbler 1 Prairie Warbler 1 Black-throated Green Warbler 2 Northern Cardinal 1 Rose-breasted Grosbeak 1 Painted Bunting 1 Spot-breasted Oriole 3 Boat-tailed Grackle 1
