Florida International University's continuing education class, "Flora and Fauna of the Florida Keys" visited A flock of six American Avocets stopped to rest at Curry Hammock State Park, but it is a small beach (barely 1/4 mile) and, at 10:30 AM on a Saturday, (even in August) this is a busy State Park. Families walking along the shoreline flushed the flock after just a minute or two, and the birds flew out of sight. The park's bay-side nature trail also provided a few highlights: with Hooded Warblers and Black and White Warblers hanging out with Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, and resident White-eyed Vireos and Cardinals.
