Last Saturday's joint TAS/Audubon Society of the Everglades field trip to STA-1E in western Palm Beach County was a fun day for all. In addition to nearly perfect weather, we saw plenty of waterfowl (yes, Dade birders, such birds are in Florida) and other specialties of this water conservation area, including great looks at perched raptors like Snail Kite, Red-tailed Hawk, and Peregrine Falcon. Afterwards, a few of us traveled up the road a few miles, and located the 2 Smooth-billed Anis where they had been found earlier in the week. Here is my trip list (some birds were seen by others not on this list, including a photographed Yellow Warbler): Black-bellied Whistling-Duck 63 Fulvous Whistling-Duck 2 Gadwall 1 American Wigeon 4 Mottled Duck 9 Blue-winged Teal 60 Northern Shoveler 22 Northern Pintail 20 Green-winged Teal 6 Ring-necked Duck 35 Ruddy Duck 1 Pied-billed Grebe 11 Wood Stork 2 Double-crested Cormorant 29 Anhinga 35 Least Bittern 1 Great Blue Heron 20 Great Egret 20 Snowy Egret 56 Little Blue Heron 4 Tricolored Heron 23 Cattle Egret 6 Green Heron 1 White Ibis 7 Glossy Ibis 36 Roseate Spoonbill 1 Black Vulture 8 Turkey Vulture 12 Osprey 4 Snail Kite 1 Northern Harrier 5 Red-shouldered Hawk 1 Red-tailed Hawk 2 Gray-headed Swamphen 25 Common Gallinule 300 American Coot (Red-shielded) 500 Limpkin 17 Killdeer 3 Long-billed Dowitcher 18 Wilson's Snipe 2 Spotted Sandpiper 1 Ring-billed Gull 6 Gull-billed Tern 1 Caspian Tern 1 Forster's Tern 1 Black Skimmer 1 Mourning Dove 3 Belted Kingfisher 8 American Kestrel 3 Peregrine Falcon 1 Monk Parakeet 8 Eastern Phoebe 1 Loggerhead Shrike 2 White-eyed Vireo 2 Fish Crow 2 Northern Rough-winged Swallow 30 Tree Swallow 50 Marsh Wren 1 Common Yellowthroat 10 Palm Warbler 8 Savannah Sparrow 1 Red-winged Blackbird 40 Eastern Meadowlark 2 Boat-tailed Grackle 50
