I had a female Bufflehead at the quarry lake on SW 107th Ave. the bird was still being seen around 4 this afternoon. The duck was swimming with a few hooded mergansers. Hoping to take advantage of the strong northerly winds I spent a couple hours at the Newport Pier where nothing really interesting was seen. A few close gannets and a compelling something I couldn't identify (shorebird larger than a sanderling smaller than a willet---phalarope?--flying against the wind and out to sea) were the only things of note.
