The Curlew Sandpiper was seen again this morning. When entering Merritt Is. NWR, turn left onto Pumphouse Road, which is across from Gator Creek Rd, and park at the barricade. Walk past the barricade and turn right and walk along the dike following the powerlines. Turn left (north) at the pumphouse. Continue straight and look on the right (east) at the mudflats. There are about 4,000 shorebirds in this location, but the Curlew Sandpiper stands out easily. That's about 3,972 more shorebirds than there are in all of Dade County. That's a result of not having any shorebird habitat at all. Wump wump.
