Twenty-six birders came out today for the first TAS Sunday walk of the season, at AD Barnes Park. The day was warm and sunny, and we had an enjoyable hike. Although there were not great numbers of birds, we saw a good variety, including 6 species of warblers (with a good number of Worm-eating Warblers), and an unexpected Black-whiskered Vireo plus several Red-eyed Vireos. Those who stayed for the second loop around the pool area and parking area got great looks at a pair of dark morph Short-tailed Hawks (our first of the season) wheeling overhead (I've posted a photo of one to my eBird report http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S31413756 ), as well as an immature Spot-breasted Oriole spotted by Eagle Eye Jack in a small hedge. Our day's list: Green Heron White Ibis Cooper's Hawk Short-tailed Hawk Rock Pigeon White-crowned Pigeon Eurasian Collared-Dove Mourning Dove Chimney Swift Red-bellied Woodpecker parakeet sp. Red-eyed Vireo Black-whiskered Vireo Blue Jay Barn Swallow Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Northern Mockingbird Ovenbird Worm-eating Warbler Black-and-white Warbler American Redstart Northern Parula Prairie Warbler Northern Cardinal Spot-breasted Oriole
