We had an adult male Painted Bunting at our feeder this evening; this is much earlier than we have had our first arrivals in other years. He looked to be in less than perfect condition; it might have been the rain, but his plumage looked dull, and perhaps the skin of the lores was swollen. Any speculation on why he is down here so early?
