I heard an unusual 2-note call from my yard, and knew it was something different. The notes are almost metallic, and only in a pair. There is no trilling or chattering. When I saw the bird, I noticed rufous in the tail. When I got a good look, it was obviously a kingbird. looks like a gray kingbird, which we do have in the yard. But I am put off by the rufous in the tail. There is a faint yellow belly wash (consistent with gray). There is a rather faint face mask. The bill is very large, I think larger than what I am used to in a gray. I am trying to get photos. Is this just a gray kingbird?
